The gentle one. Short transit legs, frequent stops and level ground at every viewpoint, which makes it the right first day for guests arriving off a flight or a ship.

Carlsmith Beach Park, Hilo Bay
Spring fed tide pools that run unusually clear, with honu often resting close in. Paved parking and lawn reach the water’s edge, so guests view the pools without leaving hard ground.

Our headline product, in two lengths. The park itself is the most wheelchair friendly major sight on the island, with paved overlooks and hard surface throughout.

The national park
A general tour of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Caldera overlooks, the steam bluff and Devastation Trail, all on paved surface, with accessible restrooms built into the route.

Everything in the four hour tour, then out across the lava fields with a meal stop, a black sand beach, and our own visitor center standing on the lava field at Kalapana.

Ours alone
Our visitor center on the lava field at Kalapana
The eight hour tour finishes at our own visitor center, which stands on the lava field at Kalapana. No other operator on the island can put your guest here, so it is the part of the day they talk about afterwards. Access detail: [surface, parking and restroom detail].

Operational notes
Conditions that affect scheduling
Worth factoring into how you sell and schedule accessible product on this island.
East side rainfall
Hilo receives rain most days, usually in short bursts. We carry ponchos and chair covers and hold indoor substitutions for the Hilo tour.
Vog and volcanic activity
Volcanic haze affects breathing on some days. We check conditions each morning and will move a caldera stop, advising your operations desk before departure.
Accessible restroom density
Reliable accessible restrooms are sparse outside the national park and Hilo town. Our routes are planned around facilities we have verified, which adds stops to a day.
Guest equipment
Guests travel in their own chair or scooter, which we secure for the drive. Beach wheelchairs and rental chairs can be arranged with sufficient notice.
Medication and pacing
Send us any medication schedule or fatigue constraint with the brief and we will build the day around it, including quiet time in the vehicle where needed.
Eight hour days
The long volcano tour is a full day out. For guests with lower stamina the four hour version or the Hilo tour is usually the better sell.
